It seems as if time stands still there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We invite you to join us in a time-travel adventure in Dolovi! <\/span><b>Explore the secrets of the ancient<\/b> <b><i>Principality of Poljica<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: its history, traditional culture, the old way of life and understanding of the world of its inhabitants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While enjoying a welcome aperitif (a selection of homemade Dalmatian brandies), get to know the fascinating history of <\/span><b><i>The<\/i><\/b> <b><i>Principality of Poljica<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 an autonomous, self-governing community which practiced a specific type of political &#8220;peasant democracy&#8221; from the Middle Ages. It managed to preserve its autonomy for eight centuries, up until the beginning of the nineteenth century when Napoleon dismantled it. <\/span><b><i>The<\/i><\/b> <b><i>Principality<\/i><\/b> <b><i>of Poljica<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">played an important role in defending Dalmatian territory against Turkish attacks and overreach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most important historical source for studying <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Principality of Poljica<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b><i>The<\/i><\/b> <b><i>Poljica Statute<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 <\/span><b>one of the oldest and most unique Croatian and European medieval legal statutes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Some scholars speculate that the first drafts of <\/span><b><i>The<\/i><\/b> <b><i>Poljica Statute<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were possibly written as early as the eleventh century. The oldest preserved text of the Statute dates back to the fifteenth century. <\/span><b><i>The Poljica Statute<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has altogether 116 articles. Its writers and the conceptual originators were most probably the glagolitic priests who played an important intellectual role in Poljica&#8217;s history: they were the educators and the gatekeepers of Poljica&#8217;s cultural heritage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>The Poljica Statute<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> determined the laws, customs and socio-economic relations of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Principality of Poljica<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and it was very different from other Croatian medieval statutes. It was written in the Croatian cyrillic script called <\/span><b><i>polji\u010dica<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 one of the three regional versions of the Croatian cursive Cyrillic script, which was used in the Principality of Poljica and in the central Dalmatia region from the fifteenth until the nineteenth century.<\/span> <b><i>Polji\u010dica <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been recently included on <\/span><b><i>The List of protected cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 For all of its peculiarities,<\/span><b><i> The Poljica Statute<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a fascinating and very important Croatian cultural monument that has been (and still is) extensively studied by Croatian and foreign scholars.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the historical introduction, find out how the old residents of the Upper Poljica region lived their everyday lives by exploring <\/span><b><i>The Heritage Museum of Upper Poljica<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which is set up in the<\/span><b> three hundred years old stone hearth-houses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The museum contains a couple of valuable historical documents and more than two hundred authentic artifacts that were used in everyday life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Relish in homemade Dalmatian wine, prosciutto, cheese and in<\/span><b><i> The<\/i><\/b> <b><i>Poljica\u2019s Soparnik<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><b><i>zeljanik, uljanik<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) \u2013 famous traditional delicacy of the Poljica region that dates back to the times of The Principality of Poljica. <\/span><b><i>The Poljica\u2019s Soparnik<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is registered at the <\/span><b><i>List of protected cultural goods of the Republic of Croatia <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and it has been awarded<\/span><b> a protected geographical indication at the European Union<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enjoy beautiful, rustic atmosphere of the old stone houses, hearths, stables and traditional Dalmatian dry stone walls, while letting yourself be swept away by the ancient sounds of <\/span><b>Poljica&#8217;s and other Croatian traditional instruments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: different types of <\/span><b><i>Croatian<\/i><\/b> <b><i>bagpipes<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b><i>shepard flutes<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b><i>gusle<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a bowed, single-stringed instrument traditionally played in the Dinarides region of Southeastern Europe) and <\/span><b><i>lijerica<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a bowed, pear-shaped, traditional Croatian instrument played in some parts of southern Dalmatia and eastern Herzegovina). We will also demonstrate traditional male and female shepard singing styles specific to the Upper Poljica region called <\/span><b><i>ojkavica<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b><i>rera <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b><i>kirijanje<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as our traditional dance called <\/span><b><i>Polji\u010dko kolo<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while wearing our beautiful male and female <\/span><b>traditional folk costumes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later in the evening we will stage an old Slavic ritual midsummer solstice bonfire inside the old stone circle threshing floor called <\/span><b><i>guvno<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The midsummer solstice bonfire was called <\/span><b><i>Cvitnjak <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Upper Poljica<\/span><b><i>. <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People have gathered around this bonfire for centuries, for religious, healing and social (celebratory) purposes.
